Audubon NC Free Birding Tours
The sights and sounds of colorful and unique coastal birds fill the air in coastal North Carolina this time of year. Audubon North Carolina staff are helping people get close-up looks at these natural marvels through free guided tours of the Mason Inlet Waterbird Management Area through September. The tours, which run from 9am to 11am every Friday, are open to the public and feature a walk along the protected sanctuary that serves as habitat for beach-nesting birds including Least Tern, Black Skimmer, American Oystercatcher, Wilson's Plover and other unique and interesting coastal birds. Audubon North Carolina worked with the local community to develop this dynamic bird sanctuary from an inlet relocation project. Mason Inlet is now home to the state's largest beach-nesting colony of Least Terns. You do not need to register, just meet at the Mason Inlet information kiosk. A season of masterpieces draws to a memorable close as UNCW faculty members Marina DeRatmiroff and Christopher Johns lend their virtuoso talents to Richard Strauss' breathtaking "Zerbinetta’s Aria" from Ariadne auf Naxos, and Ottorini Respighi's passionate and soulful Adagio con variazioni for cello and orchestra. Glenn Singer...El Gleno Grande!
See Glenn Singer's "El Gleno Grande" and then try to tell someone you were rolling in the aisle watching a man ride a horse-of-a-different-color on stage. A remarkable physical comedian, Singer has "brought down the house" in performing arts venues, international festivals and at major top-tier resorts across the U.S. and Europe. He asks that you not get squeamish at considering attending an event that appears as silly at first glance as you may think his act is. This is an outrageously clever and hysterical experience...In short, the man's a genius on a stick. Advance-paid reservations required. Fri 8:30pm; Sat 7:30pm & 9:30pm; Sun 2:30pm.
